Date: Thursday 22 June Time: 8:45am - 12:30pm

Whether you want to be a sports journalist or adapt Shakespeare for a modern-day audience, this series of workshops will put you in the driving seat for your creative writing career. This is your opportunity to take different types of writing for a spin and see which, if any, might go the distance. You will meet award-winning writers at the top of their game who will give you the insider’s guide to their area of expertise and guide you through developing your own skill in this area. And if you’d like a break fromwriting, why not try Zentangle art, mindful relaxation that could prove a helpful activity you can do with just a pen and paper when you’re feeling a little more stressed than usual. The day will start with a talk in the theatre by Comedy YA writer Simon James Green, who will provide an insider’s guide to becoming a writer, from the initial idea to working with an editor and promoting the book after publication. Pupils then choose two from the following five workshops (9.50am - 11am and 11.20am - 12.30pm). Each workshop has a max capacity of 20 pupils.

This is a call for the Good Samaritan in you – can you make somebody’s day fun and special? You will be involved in the planning of and delivering of an entertainment schedule (including a quiz, music performance, raffle draw, refreshments) for around 30 elderly guests from nearby sheltered housing accommodation. You will need to bring your most charming chat, and your ability to get stuck in, and to work successfully as a team, in order to make the event a memorable one for our guests.

Award-winning YA author Simon James Green will follow up his headline talk with a workshop on writing comedy.
