Welcome to ‘Inside Ibstock’

Be Kind, Be Curious and Be Courageous

The pupils incorporate our school values every day in abundance, and we are thrilled to welcome you to the second edition of Inside Ibstock. You will see just howmuch the children have participated in, celebrated and, most importantly, enjoyed this year. All individual and collaborative successes are so wonderful, and we are so proud of our Ibstock Place School community.

Ballet

Dance pupils had a busy week of exams including Rambert Grades Contemporary Dance, ISTD Cecchetti Ballet and RAD Ballet from Pre-Prep to Intermediate Foundation. All dancers performed with composure and confidence and showed excellent understanding of the technicalities of their respective syllabus. Congratulations to all involved.

Photography Club

This term, Mr Keighley launched a photography club and, in the first session, pupils learnt about macro photography. After a brief tutorial in the classroom, they headed out into the school grounds to find some subjects for their photographs. They were very pleased with the results.

Kindergarten and Prep 1 had a wonderful time celebrating their achievements at the Pre-Prep Prize Giving ceremony. The event was a joyous occasion, filled with smiles and applause as each child was recognised for their hard work and accomplishments throughout the year. It was heartwarming to see the pride and happiness on their faces as they received their awards. We are incredibly proud of every one of them for their dedication and effort, and we look forward to seeing their continued growth and success. Pre-Prep Prize Giving

Prep Prize Giving

Prep Prize Giving is always one of the most special events in our School calendar, and this year was no exception. Parents were treated to some fantastic musical performances from our Prep 6's and our Prep 5 String Quartet, alongside some brilliant whole-school singing. Children across the Prep School were recognised for their attainment, effort and progress, and we said a sad farewell to our Prep 6 pupils who shared their memories. Mrs Bartholomew read out a fantastic poem that she had written which really summed up life in the Prep School. It was an uplifting and joyful afternoon and we are so proud of all our pupils.

Bloom and Belong

Beth from Bloom and Belong visited Ibstock to deliver a workshop for our Prep 6 girls on the menstrual cycle. The session began with a focus on the stages of the menstrual cycle, ensuring the girls felt comfortable with the biological aspects. Beth then introduced various period products, which helped the girls understand their use and anatomy. The workshop's second part involved the girls’ mothers, fostering open discussions about periods and emotions throughout the menstrual cycle. The event ended with mothers sharing personal stories, creating a supportive environment. The girls left feeling confident and uplifted.

Punch and Judy

Pre-Prep pupils were entertained with a traditional seaside Punch and Judy show after learning about entertainment in the Victorian days. This classic puppet performance, which has been a beloved part of British culture since the 17th century, provided the young pupils with an engaging and educational experience. They watched with wide-eyed excitement as the colourful characters and humorous antics unfolded before them, gaining a deeper appreciation for historical forms of entertainment while enjoying the lively show.

Prep 6 Maths Roadshow

Firefighter visit

Our Senior School Maths Faculty organised a Maths Roadshow for the Prep School, with Prep 6 pupils participating in 18 different challenges. Working in pairs, pupils tackled puzzles ranging from large-scale hexagon and square puzzles to classics like Nim and The Bridges of Königsberg. Pupils and teachers enjoyed the Roadshow carousel and solving the challenges together.

Prep 3 and Prep 5 had an exciting visit from a firefighter who taught them important lessons about fire safety and emergency preparedness. The firefighter covered how to safely evacuate during a fire, the importance of having a family emergency plan, and the proper use of a fire extinguisher. The visit was educational and engaging, emphasizing the importance of safety in everyday life.

Russian Lessons

Prep 6 pupils were treated to a Russian lesson from a pupil in the Senior School. Stacy (Lower Sixth Form) taught the pupils how to introduce themselves, how to write their name in Russian and how to say thank you and goodbye. A big "Спасибо" to Stacy for all the hard work she put into preparing, and delivering, the lesson and for bringing such joy and enthusiasm to the Prep 6 classroom!

Ciné Schools

Ciné Film brought Film Club to Ibstock in the Summer Term. Pupils from Prep 3 to Prep 6 enjoyed pitching film ideas and planning the film using a storyboard, before using the camera to film scenes around the School grounds. The pupils were also taught different camera techniques to create different effects. They also loved dressing up and using instruments to make various sound effects.

Engineering Challenge

We had our inaugural Prep and Senior Engineering Challenge. There were ten teams of four pupils; each team had a member from Prep 5 - Senior 8. The challenge was to build the tallest tower possible with only spaghetti and marshmallows. To make things even harder, the structure had to balance a hard boiled egg at the top of it. It really was a cracking afternoon!

Prep 3 Explorer Dome

Visitors from The Explorer Dome Experience came to visit Prep 3. Pupils enjoyed an engaging workshop about light and shade. Inside the pitch-dark dome, they explored the nature of light, its sources, how it travels, and howwe perceive it. They also learned about the different wavelengths that light can be split into and discovered the fascinating properties of UV light. This hands-on display of effects and experiments made for an enlightening and educational experience.

Heritage Day On Monday 24 June, Prep pupils celebrated Diversity Week. They came to school dressed in an array of different clothes to represent their countries and cultures. They had a fascinating time learning about exactly where all the pupils come from and what makes them so proud of their heritage.

Prep 5 Residential Trip

Prep 5 had a fantastic sunshine-filled week at Grittleton House. From skating, archery, and body zorbing to climbing, and even conquering the Crystal Maze. If that wasn’t enough, the fun carried on with water fights and disco nights. The pupils showed kindness, resilience, and top-notch teamwork throughout, making memories we’re sure will stay with them for many years to come.

Kindergarten pupils had a blast exploring Battersea Park Zoo. They listened to a rendition of “The Gruffalo” and went on a quest to find the little brown mouse. The ‘animal safari’ adventure used clues to lead them to zoo animals including baby meerkats munching on strawberries, a sneaky corn snake, and emus who lay green eggs! Kindergarten visit to Battersea Park Zoo

Kindergarten became explorers in the magical Isabella Plantation. From vibrant flowers to towering trees, every step was filled with wonder and excitement. They discovered so many different types of flowers, plants, and trees. The highlight was tackling the stepping stones without getting their feet wet! Prep 1 visit to Kew Gardens

Prep 1 pupils visited KewGardens to learn more about their Science topic - Plants. The pupils took part in a Plant Scientists workshop, run by a Kew volunteer. They were scientists for the day: using scientific vocabulary, pretending to be pollinators, practising their observational skills, and had the opportunity to get up close and personal with flowers through microscopes. They explored the Palm and Lily houses, visited the play area, and finished our trip by visiting the Hive. Thank you to our parent helpers who came along, we are very grateful for your help! The pupils had a fantastic time and enjoyed all the activities on offer.

Prep 2 visit to Morden Hall

Prep 2 had a fantastic trip to Morden Hall, enjoying the beautiful sunshine and lush greenery. In the morning, they hunted for minibeasts in the grassy and woodland areas, classifying their finds. Then, in the meadow, they used nets to catch larger insects like grasshoppers and damselflies, examining themwith special magnifying glasses. After a picnic lunch, the children went pond dipping, discovering various aquatic life and even meeting a resident terrapin. The trip was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone!

Prep 4 visit to the London Transport Museum

This term, the intrepid Prep 4s visited the London Transport Museum for a day of learning and exploration. In the 'Coding the

Capital' workshop, they programmed trains using color coded tiles to prevent crashes, reduce energy use, and promote public transport. After lunch, they explored the museum's three levels, discovering transport history and admiring the vehicle collection. Applying their learning, 34 children and 9 adults rode the District Line from Embankment to Putney Bridge.

Prep 2 had a fantastic trip to Hampton Court Palace. They took part in an insightful workshop called ‘Entertaining the Tudors,’ where they planned a banquet. The children explored the kitchens, chapel, and Henry VIII’s quarters, and even had some playtime in The Magic Prep 2 visit to Hampton Court Palace

Prep 3 visit to the Fishbourne Roman Palace

Prep 3 had an amazing trip to Fishbourne Roman Palace. They marveled at the intricate mosaics, learning about Roman art and culture. The highlight was a hands-on workshop where they wrote their names in Latin and crafted their own ‘bulla’, just like Roman children. It was a fun and educational experience that brought history to life!

Garden playground! They represented Ibstock impeccably, making it a truly wonderful day.

Prep 6 Residential Trip

Prep 6 residential trip to the Isle of Wight was a fantastic experience. The pupils engaged in various team-building exercises, and the weather was fabulous, adding to the overall enjoyment. Everyone had a brilliant time, as they overcame challenges and bonded with friends, making it a memorable adventure for all.

Prep Sports Day

The annual Prep Sports Day was full of excitement! Athletes of all ages participated in a variety of events, including cricket ball vortex, discus throw, sprint, speed bounce, and relays. Parents, teachers, and spectators enjoyed cheering them on from the sidelines. Congratulations to overall winners Findlay House!

Our Under 11 girls' football team achieved a remarkable victory by winning the ISA Regional Tournament! This outstanding accomplishment showcases the team's dedication, skill, and teamwork. Congratulations to the players, coaches, and supporters who have contributed to this fantastic success! ISA Regional Tournament Champions

Pre-Prep Sports Day

Pre-Prep had an absolutely fantastic time at Sports Day! The excitement was palpable as the children enthusiastically participated in a variety of events. They leapt with joy in long jump, showcased their speed and agility in the races, and demonstrated their strength and accuracy in the throwing events. The day was filled with laughter and smiles, especially during the water-based activities where they gleefully splashed around. It was a day of fun, camaraderie, and unforgettable memories for everyone involved.

Forest School

On 5 June, to raise awareness about environmental issues, pupils celebratedWorld Environment Day with various engaging activities. Teachers emphasised the importance of bees in our ecosystem by promoting the planting of bee friendly plants in our gardens, contributing to their conservation. They also learned to tie a Reef Knot, a useful skill for many outdoor tasks. Emulating beavers, they also built our own dams using natural loose materials, gaining insight into how these structures can impact and benefit local environments. Making the most of the good weather, pupils had fun colouring and playing in the mud kitchen.

Mental Health Awareness Week

Pupils wore green to support mental health awareness! As part of the “Movement: Moving More for Our Mental Health” theme.Throughout the week, pupils participated in lively dance parties during break time, providing a fun and effective way to relax and rejuvenate their minds. The dance sessions not only brought joy and energy to our school but also highlighted the importance of physical activity in maintaining mental well-being. Let’s continue to embrace movement and dance our way to healthier minds!

The Lion King Junior

A huge congratulations to the talented Prep 6 pupils for their wonderful performance of The Lion King JR. The show received a standing ovation on both evenings, with not a dry eye in the house. A heartfelt thank you to all the teachers and parents involved who helped make this a spectacular and memorable production. The showwas a testament to the dedication and positivity pupils have shown in rehearsals.

The Summer Concert

Tuesday 4 June saw the brilliant performance of the Prep School's Summer Concert in the Great Hall. From rock bands, drummers, string orchestras, ukuleles, choirs and wind bands, the audience were in for a very special evening with some truly memorable performances. The culmination of a year's worth of music making and the final presentations of our Prep 6 pupils really showcased the incredible work of the Prep Music Department and how far our pupils have progressed over the year.

Evolve

‘Evolve’, Ibstock’s whole school dance show of 2024, was a huge triumph, showcasing a diverse range of styles including Acro, Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, and Street Dance. The pupils performed to a sold-out audience, displaying remarkable artistry and talent.

Art Show

Pre-Prep & Prep celebrated a week of creativity, curiosity and collaboration during Arts Week 2024 exploring the theme ‘Art in Nature’. Pupils from Kindergarten to Prep 6 worked in various media to create a range of artwork including watercolour Wildflower Meadows, Cyanotype Nature Prints, torn paper Collage Landscapes and painted Expressive Storms. Each class also took part in workshops run by local artists to create an amazing collection of 3D sculptures inspired by famous artists. Projects ranged fromMonet water lilies and Ross deWayne Campbell beetles to Barry Flanagan hare sculptures. The week culminated in a fantastic Art Show showcasing all the artwork created by our talented pupils to friends and family. The show also included live printing workshops by local artists, nature art activities run by Prep 5 and Prep 6 Art volunteers and some irresistible nature themed cupcakes!

Prep 6 Lip Sync Activity

To celebrate the end of Prep 6, our pupils had a visit from ‘The Little Film Company’, who worked with the children to create a lip sync video! Throughout the day, the pupils were filmed singing lyrics from ‘High Hopes’, using props and costumes. Some of their teachers got involved too! It was a brilliant way to end the year.

Prep 6 Disco

Prep 6 had an absolute blast at their leavers disco, organised by our fantastic FIPS. The glow-themed extravaganza lit up the night as pupils rocked neon-coloured clothes and accessories that made them shine brighter than a disco ball. With the DJ spinning all the best tracks, everyone hit the dance floor, busting out their best moves. To top it all off, there were delicious snacks and refreshing drinks to keep the energy high. It was an evening of fun, laughter, and unforgettable memories!

Prep 6 Leavers Hoodie

Thank you to FIPS for providing the Prep 6 leavers hoodies and the leavers yearbook. The pupils absolutely adore their hoodies, wearing them proudly each day. They are also eagerly anticipating the arrival of the yearbooks, which will undoubtedly become cherished mementos of their time here.
