SPORTS STATS ROUND-UP… Outstanding individuals
The following pupils were selected to represent Wandsworth at the London Youth Games: Oskar Brimacombe, Isabella Harrison, U13; Skye Bishop, Rupert Hooper, Matthias Ysebaert, U15; Millie Doyle, Matthew Georgiadis, Mackenzie Hair, Sam Holloway. Further Wandsworth selection, this time for the Inter Borough Cross Country Championships, came again for Oskar and Isabella along with Sammy Thorburn, Ned Ballantyne, Lexie Yee and Emily Oldfield.
Toby Cooper-Driver was selected for the GB Gymnastics Squad to compete in the European Cup and placed 6th overall.
At the Wandsworth Borough Cross Country Championships, IPS ended up with no fewer than five borough champions. Oskar Brimacombe won the U13 boys’ and Isabella Harrison the U13 girls’ events, while Skye Bishop and Matthias Ysebaert took top honours in their respective races for the U14s. Sam Holloway was the winner of the U16 boys’ race.
Sebastian Bandeira Freire was selected to represent GB at the World Age Group Championships in Tumbling in Baku, Azerbaijan. Seb finished in a fantastic 8th position.
Jack Donovan was selected to represent the GBR Development Sailing Squad in the Halloween Cup at Lake Garda
In a local swimming derby held against KCS Wimbledon featuring U12, U14, U15 and U16 squads, special mention goes to Ethan Colgate who won his individual backstroke race; Winnie Griffiths, Violet McIllree, Matilda Tran and Lexie Yee for their fantastic performance in the U12 relay race; and Max Yee, who excelled in a tightly contested individual medley.
Alina Ahmad, S10 and Hayden White, PVI were selected to represent Wandsworth in Archery at the London Youth Games. Each won gold with their respective teams. Individually, Hayden won silver and Alina a bronze medal.
Grace Oldfield and Natasha Hymans took part in the Upper Thames Autumn Head competition at Henley. There were no schools taking part in the competition but a selection of elite boat clubs such as Henley, Maidenhead, Leander as well as teams from Oxford and Bristol universities. The girls came fourth in their doubles race and then raced in a quad with a pair from Barn Elms Boat House, coming in third place. In a 3.2km race held at Molesey Head, the girls rowed to victory in their coxless quad.
Sadie Simpson represented
Wandsworth in their U15 Netball team in the London Youth Games and won the tournament!
Skye Bishop and Isabella Harrison represented their respective boroughs in the London Mini Marathon. Isabella also competed magnificently in the SEAA Indoor Athletics Championships this year achieving a 3rd place finish in the U13 girls’ 800m. She then went on to take first place, and be crowned County Champion, in the London Schools’ Cross Country Championships. IPS was also represented in these by Skye (7th), Oskar Brimacombe and Millie Doyle.
Aisling Glanville, S9 was selected to represent U16 Middlesex girls’ water polo in an inter-county tournament, achieving a 2nd place with the team.
The U12 and U13 Swim Squad competed in the first round of the London League against KCS Wimbledon, Emanuel and Wimbledon High School. Ethan Colgate and Sophia Michael came 1st in their respective 50m backstroke races and Max Sochovsky came second.
