TRANSLATION It is Christmas Eve It is the best time of the year A perfect fire burns in the fireplace

Whilst the Christmas tree is being decorated Christmas music is playing all over the house Tinsel and small lights wrap themselves around branches and banisters

Presents wrapped in gold paper grace the tree Candles light up the room to create a calm twilight Friends’ cries and laughter fill the air Smells stream out of the kitchen Everyone is looking forward to the next day If only this night could last forever Georgie Hughes, LVI

LIEDERABEND Lockdown was not to disrupt IPS’s second annual Liederabend: a celebration of languages and song. Whilst a traditional Liederabend would focus only on German Art Song, pupils presented a variety of pieces in the full range of languages studied at IPS: French, Spanish, German, Italian, Latin, Mandarin and Russian, accompanied by new translations crafted by School’s top linguists. Pupils excelled themselves, and it was excellent to see a large and appreciative audience tuning in. Congratulations to all the pupils who participated in this event, whether as translators or performers, and thanks to Mr Bartlett and Mrs McBride and their colleagues in the School of Music and Languages Faculty, respectively, including our wonderful singing teachers who prepared the singers so well.
