MUSICAL THEATRE LIEDERABEND A troupe of talented pupils took to the Theatre to

present a range of songs from stage and screen. Scarlett McKittrick opened the show with a virtuosic rendition of ‘The Girl in 14G’, which tells the story of three singers sharing a party wall, whose opera, jazz and Broadway styles do not get on harmoniously. Scarlett performed the role of all three singers, switching voices in impersonations of Barbara Streisand, Ella Fitzgerald and The Queen of the Night. A glitzy start which well and truly set the tone.

ROCK AND POP CONCERT

At an extraordinarily varied Rock and Pop spectacular, a small, socially distanced audience of pupils gathered in the Theatre to be greeted by Mr Ward and Mr Baskett's lavish and phantasmagorical set and lighting. The Senior 9 Band opened the evening and what followed was a smorgasbord of soloists and ensembles. It was especially pleasing to hear two original songs (one apiece from UVIs Maddie Ager and Max Eastland-Park), as well as two songs from other languages, including S10 Nuria Dhumale and Alexa Hughes' rendition of ‘Balance ton quoi’. The rejuvenated Percussion Ensemble made their debut in this event performing a high-energy medley of modern pop songs and the evening was rounded out with the UVI band who performed a 'mini-gig' of three songs. Well done to all.

Finnius Towle, PVI

Finnius Towle gave a smooth and suave rendition of ‘Luck Be a Lady’, whilst Rosie Wright’s funny performance of ‘Taylor, the Latte Boy’, the story of a one-sided romantic fantasy about a barista, had the crowd chortling. Rebecca Brundage closed the concert with an emotional performance of ‘And I am Telling You’ from Dreamgirls , demonstrating that microphones are a totally superfluous invention. Congratulations to all who took part.

SUTHERLAND QUINTET PERFORMANCE Though Covid and its attendant nuisances prevented an Ensembles’ concert in the first half of the year, rehearsals didn’t stop. Under Miss Davidson’s watchful eye, the Sutherland Quintet have been busy practising and recording a performance of an arrangement of ‘I Wanna Be Like You’. Though somewhat at odds with the plush, refined backdrop of the Ballroom, they triumphantly succeeded in playing this simian rhapsody with real fire and bounce.
