CRAB ON THE MENU Did you know crab are rich in vitamins and minerals and the meat is low in fat and contains Omega-3 polyunsaturated acids? In early May, crab start moving in from deep sea closer to shore where they may be more easily caught. This presented an opportune moment for IPS to showcase a delicious and distinctive new dish on the Refectory’s Senior School menu: a seafood linguine made with mussels, prawns and, of course, brown crab. The junior chefs and kitchen assistants are carefully trained in the preparation and cooking of this tastiest of crustaceans and the process makes use of as much as possible of the crab: the brown meat goes to make crab butter and the shells are used for soup and stocks. Did you know that the cock crab have larger claws and a higher white and brown meat content than the hens? A single hen can carry in excess of three million eggs! Mr Joshua Stevens, Executive Chef

WELLBEING AT IPS

We were delighted to welcome new Senior 7 pupils into the ‘Finding Your Feet at IPS’ transition programme. Working alongside their Pastoral Tutor and fellow S7 tutees on the Orchard during Tutor Time, pupils were guided to identify their support networks and who they could reach out to for advice should they need help, have feelings they didn’t understand, or were just having a “not so good” day. The pupils discussed their excitement about joining the Senior School and learned about strategies they might use for any worries they had. To assist them to feel more in control of being in a new school and help them manage any new feelings they might experience, they participated in a Resilience workshop. Here, they were taught skills and actions they could use to help them to bounce back when things get challenging.

During break time and lunchtime, pupils were busily moving around School completing their Induction Passport Challenge. Tasks included taking books out from the Library, sending an email to their Head of House, locating lost property and sharing with their Tutors facts they had learned about four new pupils they did not know before arriving at IPS. Senior 8 pupils have also been finding their feet again. They have learned about the importance of looking after their mental health and how they may best overcome the challenges they face. They learnt the importance of thinking optimistically and how this can affect their feelings of happiness. They identified many of their own individual ‘positives’ which were celebrated with their fellow S8 tutees and their Pastoral Tutor. Miss Helen Taylor, Director of Wellbeing

SENIOR 7 TEAM BUILDING DAY After a morning spent on Community Outreach, the afternoon saw Senior 7 participate in four different activities, with Laser Tag, Bush Craft skills, Escape Rooms and Land-raft Building. Pupils were given tasks and problems that could not be done independently and needed the whole group to come together and work through a solution. The pupils were in no way deterred by the wet weather, which did not let up at any point! By the close of the day, the pupils went home a little happier, a little closer, and a lot wetter!
