Whether you want to be a sports journalist or adapt Shakespeare for a modern-day audience, this series of workshops will put you in the driving seat for your creative writing career. This is your opportunity to take different types of writing for a spin and see which, if any, might go the distance. You will meet award-winning writers at the top of their game who will give you the insider’s guide to their area of expertise and guide you through developing your own skill in this area. The day will start with a talk in the theatre by Comedy YA writer Simon James Green, who will provide an insider’s guide to becoming a writer, from the initial idea to working with an editor and promoting the book after publication. Award-winning YA author Simon James Green will follow up his headline talk with a workshop on writing comedy. Writing Comedy: Simon James Green Are you an adrenaline junkie fascinated by extreme environments? Come to Matt Dickinson’s ‘extreme writing’ workshop in which the explorer and film maker will use his experience of glistening glaciers and brutal blizzards on Mount Everest to guide you through spinning your own extreme story. Extreme Writing: Matt Dickinson A dyslexic writer, Grime poet and hybrid actor, Debris Stevenson has most recently adapted Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing for the National Youth Theatre. Debris will lead pupils in an interactive drama workshop. Interactive Drama: Debris Stevenson

This mindful craft of doodling with intent will prove a great source of calm in times of trouble. Requiring just a pen and paper it is a great stress-buster as well as offering countless personalised gift ideas too. Creating Zentangles: Ms Cleaves TSBA winner Sarah Govett, who is best known for her Territory series, will run workshops on writing for screen. Writing for Screen: Sarah Govett Football journalist, podcaster, and Ibstock alumna, Flo will share trade secrets and guide pupils in having a go at commentating on some recent epic sporting moments. It's a Knockout!

Date: Friday 23 June Time: 1:30pm - 4:00pm

Packed with all kinds of games and inflatable challenges, It’s a Knockout is a competitive event full of teamwork, camaraderie, laughter (and quite possibly some cheating). We will start with an uplifting warm-up dance led by instructors. Once the blood is flowing, it’s straight on with the challenges which include the bungee run, gladiator joust, wacky races, inflatable horsey hoppers, giant inflatable assault course, the inflatable wet wall, and our famous giant inflatable washing machines.
