Sharna Jackson Born and raised in Luton, Sharna currently lives in Sheffield – and Rotterdam – on a ship built in 1897. She has written six books including High Rise Mystery and Mic Drop – the first two books in a middle-grade series featuring the sibling detective duo everyone’s dying to meet. She was named one of The Bookseller’s Rising Stars in 2013 and was Southbank Centre’s ‘Imagine a Story’ author for 2020.

Kiran Millwood Hargrave Kiran is an award-winning poet, playwright, and bestselling author based in Oxford. Her debut The Girl of Ink & Stars won the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize 2017 and the British Book Award’s Children’s Book of the Year. Her second novel The Island at the End of Everything was shortlisted for the Blue Peter Award, the Costa Children’s Book Award, and longlisted for the CILIP Carnegie Medal 2018. The Way Past Winter won the Blackwell’s Children’s Book of the Year, and her fourth middle grade story A Secret of Birds & Bone was Blackwell’s Book of the Month.

Kenneth Oppel Kenneth is the author of numerous books for young readers. His award- winning Silverwing trilogy has sold over a million copies worldwide and was adapted into an animated TV series and stage play. Airborn won the Governor Generals Literary Award and the Michael L. Printz Honor Book Award. Half Brother won both the Canadian Library Associations Book of the Year for Children Award and the CLA Young Adult Book Award – the first time in the award’s history the same title has won both honours. A two-time nominee for the Hans Christian Andersen Award, he lives in Toronto with his wife and three children.

Bali Rai Bali was born in 1971 and grew up in Leicester. As a child Bali wanted to be a footballer or to write stories. His first book, (un)arranged marriage , won many awards, including the Angus Book Award and the Leicester Book of the Year. It was also shortlisted for the prestigious Branford Boase award. All of Bali’s teen titles have been shortlisted for awards across the UK, including twice making the Booktrust Teenage Prize shortlist. Rani and Sukh has also represented the UK at the International IBBY awards. Bali also writes shorter stories for Barrington Stoke - his first book, Dream On , was selected for the Booktrust’s inaugural Booked Up list.

Victoria Williamson Victoria grew up in Glasgow and is a primary school teacher with a Master’s degree in special needs education. Victoria’s experiences of teaching young children in a deprived area, many of whom were asylum seekers, inspired her first novel, The Fox Girl and the White Gazelle , an uplifting tale of friendship between Glasgow girl Caylin and Syrian refugee Reema. Twenty percent of her author royalties for The Fox Girl and the White Gazelle are donated to the Scottish Refugee Council.
